What is a Listserv?

A listserv or Yahoo group is a way of allowing groups of people to stay in touch through email. When you send an email to the special group address, everyone who has signed up for the group receives the email, and anyone can reply, either to the whole group, or just to the person who sent the email. There are several settings you can use to manage emails from the group. For example, you can receive individual email messages as they are sent in, or you can request to have all the email messages “collected” through the day and sent to you as one email message (the “daily digest”).

We use these email groups to ask questions, share experiences and information, brag, complain, and comfort one another. You may join and just read messages, but we hope that when you are comfortable you will send email and introduce yourself, though there is by no means a requirement to do so.

These groups are managed by Yahoo, and you will need to create a free Yahoo account if you do not have one already. Almost all of our groups are open to anyone who joins, so do be aware that these are not “private” spaces. Also remember that those posting are providing information from their own experiences. While there is a lot of very valuable information shared, incorrect or misleading information appears at times as well. Use common sense, and always check with a doctor, therapist, or other appropriate professional before changing any treatment plan.
