Meet

Audrey R

Audrey just celebrated her 8th birthday. She is doing very well. She is participating in Special Olympics gymnastics and her sister, Lauren is her helper. Audrey is able to walk, continues to improve with feeding herself using a fork, and we have started to have a little bit of success in potty training (it all has to do with the timing). Audrey loves to activate toys that talk or light up. She enjoys flicking paper, spinning pinwheels, and splashing in water. Her aide at school has gotten her to sign "please" and "more," but mom and dad haven't had that same success.

Audrey can follow directions on pictures at school to go to the cafeteria, bathroom and library some of the time if she focuses (sometimes that is really hard to do). She doesn't speak, but we know she recognizes some words like "eat," "pizza," and "cracker."

Audrey has about 5-7 seizures a week. She wears dynamic AFOs on her feet that go up her calf to help her keep her whole foot on the ground when she walks. She was just diagnosed with scoliosis and we will likely be getting a brace when we return to the orthopedic MD in a few months. Overall Audrey is happy and healthy. She has a winning smile and we wouldn't know what to do without her.
